Escape
Shall he climb up into the lowest Inspection
Gallery? But the lowest part of that Gallery is 12 foot above
the floor he treads on: it affords him no hold to
climb up by, and it projects over his head. He
has then the windows to force through: and that
done he finds the armed watchmen together with
the Inspector who lies in that Gallery, and whom the
noise has drawn thither to receive him. He unarmed
then has to encounter two men armed: for he has
nothing in his hand that could save him by way of weapon
no arms, and if he had, how could he climb with
them? Let But let him master his two opponents:
still he is not out of the building: and the
noise of the conflict has drawn thither the whole force.
Shall he prefer attempt the commencement of the covered
way? As soon as it ceases to overhang the area
at the heigh same height as the Gallery from whence
it is projected, it is joined and protected by the
prisoners grated passage. Suppose that passage forced,
and then the wall of the covered way. He has then
to break out, as he broke in. Shall he turn to
the right, and advance towards the Look-outcovered way?
In the covered way Look-out is sleeps a Keeper,
who has his door to keep off the assailant till
he can be ready for him. Shall he turn to the left?
