in the respective Galleries. Arrived Having got into staircase,
which way shall he turn himself? Shall he
go down to the bottom? It brings him but into the
grated passage, as before. Shall he go forwards, or
side ways? he finds a wall, and on the other side
of that wall the Governor's house. Shall he go
upwards? He is presented by a door that crosses the
landing-place leading from that part of the staircase
which is upon a level with the highest story of Cells
to the superior story in the roof.

Shall he retreat backward, through
one of the Ga Inspection-Galleries? He finds in
his way a grated door on the short passage, and
then the door that forms part of the circuit of
the Gallery, and behind that door + an armed Keeper Inspector
who sleeps there and whom the noise has roused.
