The airing yards may be separated by walls of 7 or 8 feet high.
Walls would interrupt the inspector — or double iron-railing, at 20 foot
distance Inspection Gallery above the level of the Yard One side sufficient.
Each man must first get through the door of the yard before
he could arrive at the outward gate which should be double
as here under sketched

by which means the
Porter would be secured
from attacks either
from within or without, & the gates being of iron bars he
would both see & converse with persons let in & out
to ask such questions as he may think necessary.
by this means the prisoners may be suffered to work at
any trade requiring room & air with security & free from
chains as you so judiciously propose, the above is a meer
idea for your fertile imagination to begin upon.
