manner & occasion: if otherwise than according to Law, examine particularly with regard
to the time, occasion, motive & circumstances.

2. Being examined touching his age, he saith that he is between and 2. Age.
years of Age: having been born as he hath been informed and believes on or about the
day of [month year] Here if it be not well known that he has never gone by an
assumed name you may require a Copy of the register of his baptism or cause him to account
for his not being able to produce the same. So likewise if there can be any doubt of his being
of full age.

3. Being examined touching his religious profession, he saith that he is [of the Church3. Religious Profession —
of England] or is of the profession of the people called Jews &c, &c and has never been of any
other. Or if his religious profession has undergone any avowed change, examine him touching
the time of such change.

4. Being examined touching his condition in respect of marriage, he saith that he is a4. Condition in respect
of Marriage —

Batchelor [or that he is a married man having for wife A. the daughter of] Here
examine him with respect to the names of her parents and the occupation and abode or
last abode of her Father: and in like manner, if she were a Widow, with respect to her former
husband or husbands. [Or that he is a Widower having had to Wife] Here examine
him as above with respect to his late Wife or Wives, as also the times of their respective deaths:
and so in case of her having been a Widower when he married his present Wife. N. B.
The use of making the examination thus particular in respect of name, marriage, and
places of abode is partly to exclude Bigamists, and other persons who from bad conduct
have been induced to assume false names or to shift from place to place: partly in order that
in case of death, the state of their families & connections being known, the Governor on his
part and the Ward on his may know to whom to resort in consequence. Here accordingly
cause the Examinant to give the names of the children, he hath had if any, with the ages
of such of them as are alive, and the occupations & abodes of such of them as have any distant
occupation or abode as also if he hath no children to name some one or more of his next
of kin, with their respective directions, as below. If it be a woman, cause her to declare whether
she be a single woman never having been married, or a Widow: if a Widow, then cause her
to make like declaration with regard to her several husbands, as above. NB. A married
woman, cannot be a Friendly Guardian, for want of power to bind herself.
