Sect. XIII. intitled Prisoners' Settlements

Parish, to include district and
individuals chargeable —

Art. 1. For the prevention of doubts and for the saving of repetitions
Be it enacted that wheresoever in any clause of this Act and in particular of
the present section the word Parish is employed, the provision of such clause shall
be deemed to extend mutatis mutandis to the several places and persons following,
viz:
1. Any part of a Parish, which under the name of Vill, Township, Hamlet, or
any other stands separately charged with the maintenance of its own Poor.
2. Any Extra-parochial Place, inasmuch as the same stands or may stand
charged with the maintenance of its Poor.
3. Any assemblage of Places (Parishes included) which by Special Act of
Parliament or otherwise stand conjunctively charged with the maintenance of their
Poor.
4. Any individual in as far as he or she may stand chargeable with the
maintenance of any Pauper by reason of kindred.

Settlement not to be gained by
Metasylum Service —

Art. 2. And Whereas, in the event of a failure on the part of the

Governor with respect to the fulfillment of such part of his Contract as regards the provision
to be made for quondam Penitentiary Prisoners in the Metasylum, the charge
of maintaining them or such of them as might prove chargeable might be a grievous
burthen to any Parish in which such establishment may have come to be situated,
Be it enacted that neither by the luring of a man or woman in the Metasylum
and his or her service therein accordingly, nor by his or her residence with
notice, nor by his or her payment of any tax, shall any settlement in such Parish
be gained: nor, should any Apprentice be bound to any such man or woman during
his or her engagement in the Metasylum, shall any settlement be thereby gained in
such Parish by such apprentice.
