To PArnell

I cant be begun upon like a day tomorrow for
I want it this evening to talk over with somebody
else — very well then this evening you shall
have it — He accordingly left it with me
and as I was reading it occurred to me
that as I had two amanuences and he perhaps
more, the best as way would be to get it copied
before I returned it to him — and so I did.
Meantime and returned it him in turn. Presently
after came Whitbread's notice about the
Pitt, to me a subject field from
which popularity might be reaped got into
adverse hands, fastened upon it, and made
his fine speech, and since then the Bill instead
of being Wilberforce's Bill, became Pitt's
Bill. As it came out of Wilberforce's hands
I liked the Bill as at least to the general scope of
it. After that it got into the hands of Pitt's
grimgrabber man and a sad mess he has
made of it. Mr Ron has given me a copy
which intitled calling itself Heads of a Bill But
these pretended heads filling 73 folios and crammed
as full of surplusage as ever Pi private
Act was drawn by an Attorney at so much
for so a dozen words.
