with only two derivations. The one consists in bringing
to view in the first place, and at a stage somewhat earlier
than that of which the mere order of the documents in the spirit of time would warrant
a transaction which will serve as a necessary buoy
to all the rest: the the other, in keeping together the documents
relative to each transaction, and thereby
in some instances giving to a later document belonging
to an earlier transaction, the precedence over an
earlier document, belonging to a transaction which
took the commencement of which is of a later date. The
consequence is—that subsequent incidents will
in some instances be brought to view before prior
ones. But from this sort of intertexture (an inconvenience
from which the most important histories can
not be altogether free) no other perplexity or obscurity
will arise, than what may be sufficiently cleared
up by or not here and here and there a note or two,
together with and for reciprocal and corresponding references.
