Asking the Due concerning the number to be built for –
27 Septr 1799
I am commanded by the Lords Commissioners, to desire
you will move the Duke of Portland, to apprize their Lordships,
of the number of Convicts, which the Panopticon intended to
be erected by Mr Bentham, is intended to accommodate.(a)

Hendon Middlesex 30 Septr 1799
Asking a hearing on the number to be built for before decision.
Mr Bentham presents his respects to Mr King, and,
understanding that a letter from the Treasury, relative to the
number of Prisoners to be accommodated, has reached his office,
will use his endeavours to wait upon him tomorrow, in
hopes of being indulged with the communication of his
sentiments, before any definitive resolution is come to on the
subject, having some observations which it may eventually
be incumbent on him to submitt.(a)
