Panopt. Ld Pelham
One clause went out with a dash of Mr Longs
pen, for no other reason than that "he did not
like it". The Sollicitor General (Sr John
Mitford) knowing nothing of this clause, inserted reinstated
it of his motion, without so much as a application or bent
on the subject from me or any body else. This
sort of management with iterations out of number
might have in which the course of spot was all
along supposed to be fixed, fixed for there might have been
going on to this hour, if it had not been
for Ld Spencer, from whom I learnt at length
beyond a doubt in conversations, and by letter
that the promised land on which I had been
permitted to build an idea in 1795 1796 had been
unpromised in 1794, and that a promise
which being made to me could not be broken
without danger, was accordingly broken without
scruple, while by a counter promise, which
gentleman did not dare to break because it
was to his Lordship they had made it, a member of Ca the Cabinet, setting once
or twice a wish to demur at the same table with
them, they that had made it.
