when a Memorial had been prepared armed
backed by such reasons as Mr Nepean had
seemed irrefragable but containing 3 or 4 sheets
Mr Nepean who had undertaken to get Mr Long
to read it if possible, reported it impracticable: to
obtain a it was too long for Mr Long:

a sheet. I accordingly cut out a Memorial

coat. and This abridged Memorial and not the

The indolence which Mr Nepean, with the
kindest and most friendly affections towards him

I had found in him. Trembling with common
guilt though with the Treasury Sollicitor at his elbow without whose
protection he durst not face me, he neither admitted
nor denied his having read it: but another

the purpose as I understood well enough without
being told it, of making as he did a formal offer
