... directed the Surveyor survey of to ascertain the value
of Mr Wise's Lands? – Yes – exited and
sat still, while one of their Secretaries sent
a direction⊞ ⊞ in form, and for the purpose of putting a deceit upon that gentleman and myself which deceit has been put to the Surveyor that Officer to proceed upon the such
a duty measuring of such value – and sat equally
still while the same Secretary or somebody
else equally in their secrets gave a clandestine
intimation to him that he was to
do no such thing. What followed? The
genuine order has to this hour been treated
with contempt – treated with contempt for little
less than these two years past, their Lordships
sitting still all the while and witnessing it:
their Secretary Mr Long having notice from me at the time notice of in form of
the contempt – and having ever since treated
with equal contempt the Order and the Notice.
Mr Bentham's a new statement! – and
this in a Report communication to the made to the House
of Commons on the basis of the that Report of
the Committee of Finance – of that very Report
in which the Committee, in token of appretiation
had published and adopted given their sanction
to the principle of this pretended new statement
– thus of the keeping the terms the same in quantity of
the allowance the same in value substance – whatsoever aught be the figures
necessary to be employed at different periods for
the expression of it: a principle which it was
so
