L. Insidious Letter

Such being the circumstances which produced the this
letter, the terms of it are as follows.

A Board A Board is a screen – – I am sure I need not inform or
I need scarce remind, your Lordship is a
screen: besides being a nest of places in which
the properties Your Lordship sees the two uses
which doubtless preceded at the creation of this
commodious implement article of political manufacture. A Board Your Lordship
sees then is a screen: Driven on by Succeeding under in
the spur of implacable necessity, heartened if
a little by the of eight months
Mr Long took heart of grace, pushed under the anonymous imposter, got behind the
screen, and treated me with the letter, the terms
of which are as follows.

and in that its principal and most valuable character is
and, as screens are wont to be sometimes made an implement
of various uses. It is aacts at the pleasure of the
Master Manager time-shifter as an extinguisher to
all individual responsibility: to all personal imputation
– favourable and unfavourable
as a bar to whatever Your Lordship may formerly
have read of in Pussendorf, or elsewhere under the name head of moral
imputation – favourable and unfavourable: – as
a bar to all individual responsibility: the that master
spring of public political virtue, the grand and almost sole and in such stations commonly the sole security
against dispunishable arrears, and against that
incapacity which in the service of the public,
is among the first of crimes is itself a crime: it is services as a cloak to all misconduct
which is not seen to strike point in diametrical
opposition
