Secret Minutes
Variation of circumstances, yes – no doubt of it:
variation plenty. But what variation, that, any
more than that of the compass, is of a nature
to afford a plea in justification of the relinquishment
– in favour of the measure it is to be applied?
I should be glad to know curious to hear from Mr Long by
what variation of circumstances it is that fraud, and perfidy
and treachery, and studied bankruptcy, and oppression, and waste of public money
and oppression and abuse of power, and disobedience
contempt of the law Parliament, with etcetera
upon etcetera are rendered just and honourable?
The only specific sanction I can think of
that has any application to the purpose, is
that which had taken place in the finances
of the Lord Chamberlain: About nine months
before the commenceme commencement of this
Conclave consultation his Lordship had got his money: and
thus the only real object of the purchase business
being effected, it was time accomplished, the time was come for the curtain should to
drop upon the rest.
