Jail Improvements

Ask him what at this time or any time except
what by their inquiries the Committee of Finance forced him to know
in 1798 he ever knew about Gaols? Ask him
without exception except now for the purpose of this job
he ever cared about Gaols? Ask him – or
rather – to simplify the business (for of the questions he you
would stand finding find him standing to – all
of them calling for an answer – there is no end –)
bid him to save trouble pull off the mask of
at once – and when paleness has overspread his
countenance and though guilt and confusion have
put their seal upon closed his lips, bid him take pen in
hand and write to me and confess – And as the only atonement
he can make to me address send his confession to me
that the improved Jails he pretended to see were
no more real Jails, than the men he intended to
give me were real men – and that in the order
he gave me to make preparations for 2000, he
meant neither more nor less than to deceive and
ruin me, than what Messrs Long and Co had
been meaning and labouring at for so many years – to deceive and
ruin me.
