§ 8 Establishment Intrigue blabbed by King
F.18 M 1 (f) At the time of writing this letter, I not
only was, as at all other times, in a situation
which made it necessary for me to write and
act as if I had thought the intentions of Honourable
Gentlemen still sincere, but I had still no assurance
but that they might be so. They had
declared an intention to this effect (that of setting
the establishment on foot in the reduced state)
to Mr Nepean, from whom alone with whose
eyes along since the memorable 8th Aoril when
Mr Long forbid me all further intercourse with
him, I could see no read any thing in relation
to our fate. The Mr L Long and Mr King
had never settled with themselves the few things
that were to be said t on the subject and
entered upon the Treasury Books as they saw
entered on the 17 of the month preceding (August
1800) of the printed document paper given as an Extract
from these books and which will be seen presently
as true. But Honourable Gentlemen
had Mr Long had been as far as he was concerned as careful that
I should know nothing of how fair things that my own destiny
as thus written entered not upon on the books as he had been
to enter them see them entered it written there.
