As to the prayer of the Memorial, Your
Lordship will see in the form given to this part of the application,
a feature that could not but
have been more less vexatious to Mr
Long than the tenor of the statements
promised for the support of it. A demand
was the one thing needful – a
demand – no matter what – so it were
a positive one, that as my its being
carried before the Board, a negative
might be put upon it. Here instead
of a string of demands to any one of
which a simple negative would have
been a sufficient afforded an answer as safe
or the first as it would be destructive
in the other, was a string of questions
by which no other choice was left to
Mr Long, in the person of their Lordships
than a consent by which his my
measures would have been broken carried into effect and his
broken, or a refusal, such as would
have betrayed the perfidy that declared
it. At the same time Nor yet in
the form thus adopted was there any
handle
