§.12 Registration of Mr Nepean with Messrs. Long & King
Mr Abbott to Mr Bentham.
16 July 1800
Announcing Treasury
Police Proceedings Paper
delivered to H. of Commons
Panopt. therein mentioned.
The Treasury yesterday presented to the House of Commons
their further proceedings upon the Finance reports — And the
statement respecting the Penitentiary House is in substance,
that by a Memorial dated 20 June 1800 you have proposed an
alteration of the terms contained in your former proposal &
that the said Memorial is now under consideration — I do
not undertake to give you the words but you may depend
upon the substance being nearly this. No particulars are
stated respecting this alteration in the terms.
The papers are ordered to be printed & you shall have
a copy as soon as they are delivered.
16 July 1800
PS. Why may not Thornton in mentioning the Penitentiary
House at the same time move for the Botany Bay accounts
as making part of the same subject — especially as the
(with King at least) is to assign the propriety of
the one place as an excuse for neglecting the other.
