Inessentialia?
Dispensing power
My judgment may be have been warped by prejudice – My
notions may have been taken more than enough
from books reflection and less than enough from men experience but
I can not bring myself to think that the prosperity
of a country people is made altogether independent of its
morality, or that exists there can exist that individual in it
to whose interests the morality is immorality of the
ruling members of it can be altogether a matter
of indifference.
My judgment view may have again been warped moreover
by my resentments: but surest is my eyes have
never yet discovered in any other measure of
the same men the master any such intellectual accomplishments qualifications
as cold render it worth while to purchase the
any benefit the country has ever received or could ever
hope to receive derive for them at the expence of a connivance,
an indemnity, a bill warrant of impunity for
so gross and so persevering a violation of the laws
of morality in their most essential articles as that which
has been exhibited by the whole tenor of their conduct
for these 7 or 8 years in relation to their own business.
I see not what legitimate motive should induce Parliament
or the public to bestow an annuity upon such
crimes. I see nothing in any qualification can find no such intellectual capacity such fund of
in the qualifications intellectual any more than moral if
any of the criminals as should render make it worth a nations
while to purchase them at that so high a price.
