the suppression of the Hulks: true: – it was not an
object with him to suppress the Hulks: true again accordingly
he did not suppress the Hulks. But that he
did suppress the Penitentiary establishment is as notorious
as that he did not suppress the Hulks, and that
he had a sinister point to gain purpose to effect by the suppression
of this Parliamentary establishment is, I trust a
point pretty well made out put out of doubt by so many other evidences.
Blind – if Your Lordship pleases – he shall be: but
in what overt acts does this inward weakness
shew manifest itself? in the , audacity running
his head as it were against a wall against
the authority of Parliament: in trampling upon
one an act of Parliament upon an act that did not
so much as stand in his way – in his eagerness
to destroy the force and virtue efficacy of another.

what cause rendered it? by ambition by
a mad ambition headstrong criminal ambition – the
ambition of setting his own will above
the law of the land – his own folly above the
evidence of Parliament. Think, my Lord, what
would have become of the constitution of the country, with
the works of that letter the duke of Portland in that Office if in other instances he could have
supposed flattened himself with the appearance persuasion with the less hope of trampling on
the authority of Parliament in other quarters points instances as
secure from being called to account for it by Parliament
– as the complexion circumstances of the case had led him to believe
suppose himself to be in this instance?
