from the printed documents as Your Lordship may recollect,
and those documents forwarded put into his hands by me.
It is perfectly very true that one thousand and no more was the
number which the Treasury stood engaged to give me. But it
is no less so that their practice was at that time unknown to Mr King.
It appears stands recorded indeed in the Draught of Contract as printed in the
28th Finance Report: but I have told already had occasion
to state to your Lordship the month of not the day on
which this Report and the eyes of Mr King forced itself
for the first time upon the eyes of Mr King: and that was
not till several months afterwards. § [ ] Setting aside that
article kind of knowledge information – an information to which Mr King
was not yet arrived, what could be done for the good
of the service, I mean for the service of the conspiracy, was done by Mr King. This was the
taking the least number the indication of which an indication that could
be extracted taken from the documents: this least number was
then 2150: for this number, as your Lordship may
have observed perceived from a former paper was below a fair
one: even taking the transportable convicts alone: for in
the my calculations for it was from me he learnt – and learnt (as your Lordship may remember) at the same time – the history of the your had been given him – yet but could have been done by him but about
given an the .
establishment he was destroying, and that of the Colony he was governing.
made by me I had not so much as ventured
to say any thing a syllable about untransportable ones.

Thus much, and thus much only, is proved by
the magnitude of this number viz: that at this time
Mr Long and Mr King had not not as yet come to
a thorough explanation on the subject. – The general
object was sufficiently understood – to oppose reduce the
establishment as low to as low a point as it could be reduced to: 0 not
excepted: to what precise point it might be reducible,
and by what particular plan course of operation, was as yet
not settled. To the spirit of these preliminary articles
Mr
