Queens Square Place Westmr 14 July 1807
Sir
I write this in obedience to the second and Last of two requisitions
addressed to me by the Commissioners for the auditing
of the Public Accounts, and signified to me by Your

"make up and transmitt to this (their) Office on or before Wednesday
"the 15th of July (then) next, an account......
"of any other Sums [other than the one of £2000
"Herein particularly mentioned] that may have been received
"by me for the above mentioned service (viz. the then intended Penitentiary Establishment) duly attested upon
"oath before a Baron of the Exchequer or the Cursitor
"Baron, or before the Board, together with the necessary
"Vouchers in support thereof."
In answer to this requisition what I have to say is
that, strictly speaking, I have besides the sum above
spoken of I have never received any money for the above
or any other branch of the public service.
It been But thinking it probable that some account
has or will have come into the hands of the Board, from
charging me as having received a sum of £12,000 on
account of the said mentioned Penitentiary Establishment, accompanied and
not improbably with a receipt signed by me paper containing my signature to a receipt for that sum
I think it incumbent on me on the present occasion to give
the following explanations.
