July 1807 J.B. to Audit Office 3 Account 14 July 1807
delivered to the Audit Office
J.B. Creditor
Queens

Queries

Art. 6. £1900.. 5. 2 1/2 £1839: 14. 8 1/2 Paid to in wages to workmen by Mr Lloyd.
How shall this be proved? Will his Affidavit be sufficient?
or must he attend the Board and when?

An Account of the weekly sums paid weekly is herewith
sent, together with the two Books from whence it was extracted.
The sums in this account are in many instances somewhat
less than the corresponding one sin the Book. The
reason is that a deductions is are made in respect of
some man or men who though paid by Mr Lloyd at
the same time with the others were not paid on this
account.

As to the Accountant himself, it appearing to him
that a sort pro of provisional option as allowed this
by Mr Secretary's Letter, if from the answers to the above
Queries it should appear to him that his Affidavit would be
sufficient, he would prefer that mode of attestation, as
drawing upon him for taking up less of his time. But if should his attendance
is likely to be thought necessary he would
for the same reason prefer attending at once, and
then stand excused from making the Affidavit.

Query respecting the mode of proof

Mr Lloyd who not only made the application of the money
which is the subject of Article 4, but superintended the
delivery of the Iron Art. 2 and 3 after having been consulted
with respecting the forms to be given to the several pieces with
reference to the intended purpose, is ready to join with
the Accountant in an Affidavit to the above effect, or
to attend to be examined.

The Accountant, in his own attestation, if understood
to comprize the whole of the expenditure, was not is, of
course unable, in respect of the application of the respective sums
respectively in question to go father than belief. If
the Commissioners are provided with any preappointed
printed form of an Affidavit, addressed to such his case,
and be will be pleased to furnish him with one, he will thereupon
immediately fill it up, swear to it and retransmitt it: if not,
he has only to beg they will be pleased to appoint a day and
hour for himself and Mr Lloyd or eith either or both
to attend at the Board to be examined.
