Form of Receipt sent to John White Esqr Cannon Row Westminster
and to which his signature were desired by Letter of this date.
Receipt of Jeremy Bentham Esq.
March 1st 1808
I hereby acknowledge to have received of Jeremy
Bentham of Queens Square Place Westminster Esquire
on the 11th of Feby 1799 the Sum of £50 fifty pound paid in for Wharfage
rent and all other charges in respect of sundry parcels
of cast iron landed at sundry times at my wharf
at Milbank Westminster at sundry times from the
of 1794 to the 1st of Jany 1799
inclusive, and thereon kept under my charge down
to the 1st day of Jany 1799 aforesaid: all which
said parcels of cast iron were all along said declared
by the agents of the said Mr Bentham declared
and by universally understood to have been
adopted to the plan and intended for the to serve as to be
employed in the construction of a then intended Penitentiary
House.

Having at about the year 1794 received from
the Lords Commissioners of the Treasury a sum of money
in part of the any expenses in relation to the then
intended Penitentiary House, and having now lately
been called upon by the Commissioners for the auditing
of the public accounts to render an account concerning
the expenditure of the sums, on which occasion I it
found it became necessary to me to insert an item respecting the £50
paid to you, I am called upon by an Inspector General of
the Accounts under their direction to produce a receipt
from you to serve by way of voucher:
