Having to save a time which I can so ill
spare writting from recollection only, and and without
rummaging among the papers for the details which
would be requisite to cause perfect accuracy, it is not
impossible, though altogether beside my intention
that I may have done injustice in this or that particular
to Mr Chief Inspector. My sole object
in the of him is to endeavour to impress
the Board with the hope that when the time for full
explanation after the respite above prayed shall have
arrived, I may not appear to be that sort of person
which the general complexion of his queries and observations
seem to indicate.
Take the papers above mentioned, he
have found one fact in it has been possible to get
the pen to convey the expression of them: this I hope
will be received as an apology, as it has been the
cause of any wrong thing may be to be found.
I am Sir,
Your most obedient humble Servt
Jeremy Bentham
To render it the more easy for the Board to form their
provisional judgment, I return for the present Mr Chief
Inspector's purpose above mentioned. The Board will retransmitt
it to the whoever it is their pleasure that I should
give a fuller answer to it.
