Sir,

Having laid before the Commissioners
for Auditing the Public Accounts your Letter
of the 13.th Instant requesting that the Papers
delivered into this Office by you as Vouchers
to your Account of expenses for the
intended Penitentiary Establishment may be
retransmitted to you, the better to enable
you to answer the Observations & Queries
thereon from this Office, and the Board
having considered the same, have
directed me to acquaint you that they
are sorry it is not in their power to
comply with your request, it being unusual
and contrary to the rules of this Office
to part with any vouchers that have been
delivered in support of an Account, but
that you or any person on your behalf
may inspect or take copies in this Office
of such of the said papers as you may
deem necessary.
