and who seems disposed to earn the reputation
of zeal for the service at my expense calls for " the business
of the parties, or other evidence of actual payment" taking
no notice of the other evidence I had already tendered, viz.
the testimony to -lation in which manner the Board
should of Mr John Lloyd Master McCoryhs then my Brother's Foreman
by whom the payment
was made and the Books in question kept.
The fact is that no such receipts were taken: Mr
Lloyd assures us that in no case within his experience is
it customary to take receipt of workmen paid by weekly
wages. Those in private service: and in the Kings
service. I am afraid that receipts are never taken of any
workmen in th any of the Kings Dock Yards.
Now what I am the apprehension of is their found as it is
which has occasioned you this trouble, is this - Mr Chief Inspector
being manifestly desirous of making me pay him over as
much money as he can may for ought I can be assured of
in support of his requisition of the workmen's receipt from the workmen
make objection to the testimony of Mr Lloyd on the ground,
viz. that having received from my Brother and me so much
money to the amount in question viz. for the the purposes of
paying
