Answer
Query 3

4

The only case in which the question could in my judgment have ever
not having happened
been made with propriety no such question is here
made

If my recollection of the papers sent in with my
Account to serve as Vouchers to this 2d Item be correct
to this purpose
in this particular correct, if at least six Bills of Exchange
drawn by Booth and Co aforesaid on myself
or my said Brother, and paid by the one or the other
of us, five only were included in that collection of
Vouchers. One then at To compleat the list of of the Vouchers of this class, one
then at least must be therein in those papers have been wanting. This
omission is not of the number of three for of which, in
this Query No 3, of Mr Chief Inspectors, having for
its subject that same Item No 2, I am called upon
to state the cause. But that on my part nothing
may be wanting towards the affording of such satisfaction
as it is in my power to give, I will take this opportunity
of stating upon recollection my own conception
concerning the cause.

The five duly honoured Bills of Exchange sent in by me, as
above, were if I do not misrecollect (for I did not preserve
copies of them) Bills paid by myself through the
medium of my Bankers, Martin and Co: if so, they
must have come into my hands in the character of Vouchers
belonging to their Account with me. By the several Accounts delivered
in by Booth and Co, it appears that the whole of the
goods which were ever furnished by them on my account,
or that of my Brother, were paid for: whatever of the price of the whole mass of goods
here in question, whatever was not paid for by me,
(viz. as above or in some other way) must have been paid
for by my Brother. Accordingly, having paid all the
Bills of Exchange that had been drawn on me as above, and the
remainder of the charge having fallen coming in upon me at a time
when
