Query 5. Item 4
2
Preamble, proposition the 3d — [3] "or whether a public
or private account."
Answer:
[3] By the testimony of the same person
in what shape soever received it would also have
appeared, and would at any time appear, that
the whole of the sum in question £1821.16.4 [+] [+] (inconsiderable and
possible
errors exampled on either side of
course expected)
was expended on public account; viz. the account
here in question.
Answer
Preamble proposition the 1st, as above.
[1] By this proposition it appears that of the thing called Voucher Mr Chief Inspector
has in his mind a definition, of Voucher
composed of more characters than one, and that of
three characters, be they their they in nature and number what they
may, these books are not fortunate enough to possess
so much as one.
But what, in a manner which to me seems altogether extraordinary,
appears some how or other to have been substituted by
him, is that if by Voucher m be meant conclusive
evidence the Books in question were never tendered
by me as already possessing any such character, quality, but writing to receive
it by means of the evidence testimony of this Mr Lloyd,
to be appended to them, in which shape soever it
might be the pleasure of the Board to receive it:
a pleasure which I had no possible means of learning,
but by without asking for it, a means which, unfortunately
for me, has hitherto proved insufficient.
