As to So any letter or communication received from the Trea
Lords Commissioners of the
Treasury on the subject "of such their intentions, he has
not since the p time of the purchase abovementioned received
from them any direct assurances concerning their an
intentions of carrying into execution or relinquishing the
plan in question: though In Several letters received since that
period such intention is indeed necessarily implied;
steps having been taken by or under the direction of the
said Lords Commrs directed in appearance at least
to the giving execution to such original plan.
But having no not having received such letters or communications
as it appears to him that the Query in this head
was had in view and was meant to obtain the production
of, the Accountant humbly conceives his answer
to be sufficient on that head.
The duty incumbent on him at present, if
he does not misconceive the matter is according to the
explanation given by the Commissioners of Accounts themselves
confined to the shewing as to its subject matter to the
£2,000 received by him on the of 179
of the Lords Commrs on account of the then intended Penitentiary
establishment, and as to its object to the shewing that
that sum or a greater was bona fide applied to that
same purpose, viz. partly to the building itself, partly to the
mechanical inventions and other works intended to be carried
on in the same.
