found, it fails to find authority, or to use the more
dignified sublime expression auspices: that to the share of
Inspectors, Chief or not Chief, it fails to find thought
[and or favour of which arrangements of which it must }
be acknowledged that it is not without its convenience, gentlemen}
are left at liberty to write party pamphlets, or}
political pleasantry, or to do nothing at all, or whatever}
he may be most to their taste.]

In the present instance, should this have been the
case it will not be much to be wondered at, if instead
of finding that thought which, under the supposed
arrangement it did not belong to them to find — the gentleman
Commissioners (whose existence though in the testimony
and that but evidence of a single witness, though in the
matchless form of Voucher is still supposed) they contributed
nothing beyond the usual and pre-apprehended pre-established
quotes, viz. auspices: and that, for in the composition
of the letter, in which instead of any thing like in the stamp
in answer to the complaints which distress had forced
from me "a full and complete answer to the several
"Questions and Observations contained in the enclosed
(and herewith retransmitted) paper "[+] [+] being Questions and
Observations to be
addressed by Mr Chief
Inspector Whitcomb, and
by me complained of
as being in many points
on the score of needlessness
or irrelevancy or both
by me myself complained of
as improper vexatious and
unwarrantable,
was peremptorily with such inexorable inflexible
determinateness

and inexorably insisted upon — the only ingredient of
the nature of thought that was employed, was found,
and that without any very heavy burthen expence on the score stamp
of expence, by the said self-same Mr Chief Inspector Whitcomb.
