Sect observed that eit his understanding was
that the Treasy inclined to make part of
the compensation in the shape of an annuity.
Mr Litchfield said that he had had no communication
whatever with the Treasury
with respect to the compensation itself and
that the observation about the annuity
merely arose in a conversation between
him & Mr Hobhouse. The arbitrator then
said that there were certainly no powers
vested in them by the Act to award any
thing but a net sum, but that it might
be a matter of consideration with them
whether the compensation should not in
part be made up of a sum that Mr
Bentham himself if he thought proper
might employ in the purchase of an
Annuity -
