3d today were alld to each Artificer for
his labor & from 1d to 2d to each Laborer
The Convicts quite equal to ordinary laborer said
abt 1/5 were artificers while they recd this
encouragement were quite manageable - he
had abt 60 in his employ for nearly a Year
- at first they are dble ironed but are relieved
by degrees & finally altogr before they as their
time is out if they behave properly

The allowce was taken off after some time because
others are flayed in jl. Said had no allowance & it
was thot this wod create jealousy
The discontince of this allowce prod.d dissatisfaction
such label was not aftd had.
