In the number of the Of the Members of On the Committee to which
that evidence was delivered by a were in themselves a considerable
number by whom I remember not never knew exactly what number — every thing that is there stated
respecting the nature and products of these inventions
had, been written so in some or all of the places
abovementioned in which these the works that produced them were carrying
on. been seen with their own eyes: the present
Speaker, Chair Chairman of that Committee, and the
Right Hon. R. Pole Carew, certainly: Mr Henry
Thornton, most probably: by him I remember were
put several if not all if not all of of the questions, if not all, by whom which the
answers there contained in that evidence were extracted:
and as his intimate friend Mr Wilberforce used to
bring to my House to see the works Members of both Houses and other persons of note
in crowds, and Mr H. Thornton on several occasions
in the House and elsewhere, took particular cognizance
of the plan always with and men without
expressions or token other tokens of approbation, though I have no particular
recollection of havin my having seen him when at the time of his viewing
the works, of his having so viewed them is scarce
doubtful to me. The same like observation may apply
to the Earl present Earl of Harrowby: of seeing him of the having seen his Lordship at
my House on any such occasion I have no particular
recollection: but I remember dining with him at the in company with him about that time in
company with but one person more in company at MrWilberforce's, and
I remember having exchanging a few words with his Lordships
late father upon the occasion of his being one of a multitude crowd of
Visitors
Visitors,
when, Mr without
warning given to me
Mr Wilberforce in his
zeal had partly sent
and partly brought with
him, in such a multitude
as to be productive
of a ridi whimsical sort of whimsical distress by which the circumstance has been fixed in my memory.
