Panopt. Compensation Claim 1. Capital expended
(5) Deficit all claimable
Dissipation none

Art, science and political information, and
costly fame noted being among the objects n sought by the visitors to
my hermitage the least that prudence seemed to call for require
was always all along the utmost that was expended in that mode:
equipage, furniture almost too simple to accord with the
situation of gentlemen but for the particular character of
the residence to which such simplicity seemed not ill
asserted: female servants sometimes two, never more than
three: such servants at the utmost one for each of us and no more.

My father kept his carriages and two male servants A single male servant
with two females would have been all the utmost that I determined the whole of the/my expenditure
on that score should have expended in that way had it not been for my the
manufacturing concern complicated with the expence
of maintaining my Brother, and the expence resulting from
my negotiation with government. The difference together
with the greater part of the housekeeping expence under
other heads can not be placed to any other account than
that of procurement, occasioned as they were by the default
of government in the manner abovementioned.

Since I have been
restored to my own
house (for as the failure
of government me
out of it for some years so in 1800
when the Panopticon ground
were put into my hand
the profits of it restored
me) two female servants
have constituted the whole
of my attendance.
