Dissipation none

2. For any such purpose, Sir Samuel Romilly would be more
amply accessible. The date commencement of our intimacy the commencement of our acquaintance was not
indeed it is true of so early a date in this case as in the former case instance
I forget whether it was from before my going abroad in towards the close of 1785,
or on my return in the beginning of 1788: but since then
it has continued to the present time without interruption: and in particular
during the whole time that the works were going on, and
visitors of whom he was not a very infrequent one, coming
in, my character in this respect was came as fully under his
observation as it is usual for any one man's to do under
that of any other. His own opinion of it was indeed manifested
in a manner more expressive than words, viz. by
a loan of between £300 and £400 the result of an
unexpected offer on his part, upon witnessing the difficulty
I was thrown into by the sudden calling in of a debt of my
fathers to that amount.

The existence of A persuasion to the same effect of the same kind, and evidenced
in the same friendly manner might be proved ascertained in application to
Mr Charles Smiths of Lincoln's Inn.

If a man who for almost half a century has been
a member of that society, and for some years of the time
in practice at the Bar, the character as well as the respect
here more pertinently in question as well as in all others
can scarcely be any such purpose as that in question be
said not to be pretty sufficiently known — not merely
to his own particular intimates, but to even to their respective
intimates. Though his personal acquaintance with knowledge of me is
comparatively of recent date, this gentleman who at my
request backed by those of Sir Samuel Romilly did me the honour
to consent to act as one of my Arbitrators, will I flatter
myself be not find much difficulty in affording the requisite satisfaction on
this head to his learned Colleague.
