Panopt. Compensation Claim 1.
(2) Hendon absconding place —
never visited
but on foot
About ten miles was the distance between my
House in town (Queens Square Place Westmr) and my
lodging at Hendon. Dollis's was the near Sander's
Lane was and is the name of the Farm House. During
so many year years as that lodging was in my occupation,
since my coming into possession of
my fathers estate and his house in town any more
than before did I ever travel since make my way either to or from Hendon
otherwise than on foot. At that same place
my Brother at both periods was a frequent visitor.
I do not think he ever any more than myself ever
used any other mode of conveyance. At Hendon
there are still present persons by whom this statement could
be confirmed. I mention this as concurring with
the other circumstances in proving as far as the
of the case admitts of proof, that it was solely by
the wo blasted manufacturing concern and my
negotiations with Government taken together, and not
by any propensity to dissipation or any actual
indulgence in dissipation or imprudence in any shape that the deficit in my
paternal estate inheritance — the deficit which forms
this part of the ground of my claim for compensation —
was produced.
Among my still surviving and accessible friends, Sir Samuel
Romilly and Mr Butler the above mentioned Mr Butler
having been my guests at Hendon could speak to
my measure of living there.
