44 §.7 (8) +
5. But, the next year, the simple mode of employing the labour of
the prisoners, in working, upon materials, and with tools, supplied by
Master Manufacturers at large, being, though, unfortunately for the
present purpose, not till about the middle of the year, substituted to
that other complex mode, the accounts of the concern for the next year
1802 will (it is hoped) be seen to be clearer, as well as the concern itself
more productive.

6. Complicated more or less with those for the Years 1799 and
1800, the pecuniary account of the Year 1801 will be found stated and
explained in Pages 92, 93 and 94 of the abovementioned Tract.

7. I From page 93, I obtain the following article -
"Paid for clothing and maintaining prisoners, and to Sheriffs for bringing
"Convicts from the County Prisons - Doll.22,632 " Cents65."

8. II The expence of bringing Convicts not belonging to the principal
case, ought, on the present occasion, to be deducted; but, not finding any such
separate article in the accounts of this year 1801, I take as and for the
only means of approximation which the case affords, a charge made
under this same head (as will be seen) in the Accounts of the next Year
1802: viz - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - <hi rend="underline">Doll.1633 " Cents 44</hi>.

9. III This deducted remains for prison expenditure - - - 20,999 " 21

10. IV. But moreover, upon casting up divers sums, contained in
pages 23, 25, 27 & 28, I found , for expence, of Salaries +, a total of D6,025 " C. 00

11. V. Added to the former article, this gives for the
total expence of the year - - - - - - - - D. 27024 " C. 21.

12. VI. Per contra, in Page 92, I find in this one year, in a single whole
in one single article,
By manufactured goods sold - - - - - - - - D35,275 " C. 59.
