And for the better and more timely ascertaining
of the Settlements of the Penitentiary Men for theother
purpose of a provision to be subsequently made on the expiration of their respective terms for their
purposes families as hereinafter mentioned Be it enacted that

that upon application made upon the part of the Governor any Justice
of the Peace for the County in which the Penitentiary
House is situated to the General Sessions of the
Place for the County in which the Penitentiary
House is situated the Justices in the said Sessions shall
depute one two or more fellows of themselves or their fellows d
who shall at any convenient time or times then and
there take the examinations of all such Penitentiary
Prisoners as shall be presented to them for
that purpose touching their respective Places Settlements:
as also of any other persons dwelling dwelling
amenable to within their jurisdiction whom they may think
fit to examine respecting the same: what said
examination shall be then and there committed to
writing and Signed by the respective Examinants.

And whereas a Penitentiary Prisoner
malice to the inhabitantsso examined might through predilection to for some place not or not
justly chargeable with or other insertion through some
might be guilty of Perjury or through malice
to the inhabitants thereof or throughor other sinister motives
