If it should be necessary to refer from the
Text to any figure or Plate let the letters or figures be stuffed in the middle
of a word [of the name in common language given
to such part] it then may be the better
passed over if not wanted- if it was at
the end of a sentence it would confound the
reader he could not help attending to it.
whereas if it is at the middle of the
word he must go back after having
the idea of the word to attend to the
reference and this he need not do
unless he has occasion for it [unless he wishes it].
