Origination of Distance

Men growing more civilized had occasion
to go farther from their habitation go farther from their habitations
speak of the distance between their objects habitations
for example. the most ready way that offered
itself appears to be that of the Time employed
in walking from one to the other their
pace being for their accuracy not worthy of
notice. One Divisions of of time so small
as day they must have had at least
in the countries where darkness regularly
succeeds to light. at first perhaps they could
only describe distances consisting of days journeys
but when probably men were not long without
these Ideas lesser divisions ideas of less periods of time
the time after being satisfied before which hunger would
was probably might probably suggest some
Idea they then could speak of the distance
as having occasion to eat as hunger straining
as often which would make less divisions.

When lesser divisions became necessary in measuring
of distances (and lengths which are only distance from
one part of an object to another) a stop a
span were probably the first that occurred
by the assistance of these measures they could
judge of and by any the number of them
