Let me take a straight[?] view of the difference in
the 2 studies of Language & Geometry
as they are made at the generality of Schools.
In the first Certain Rules, Rules of Conjugation
and of Syntax are gotten by heart, the
Master can easily judge if the Learner can
repeat them, these Rules when the Learner
begins to Translate to are to be
conformed to, the Master in this case
can discern if the Learner does performs this part
of his task. He can encourage him
if he does, and punish him if he dont doesn't.
In teaching geometry the learner reads
a Proposition in a book or the master
reads it or even repeats it by heart to
the boys learner. The learner has
one or more Propositions set him as a
task to do what to? — to got by heart perhaps
or to be satisfied of the truth of it, the
one conveyed by the fear of punishment,
or by the hope of reward he with difficulty
performs. The other is a task of no great
difficulty it is done as soon as read, he
has no reason to doubt what his master
and every one else has told him is true,
