Conduct
I first had demonstrated them sustained[?] the
order and matter given by Euclid, I curtailed
myself only with altering the expression to
one more general and making use of
the new Criterion as a medium of Proof.
I allotted the Propositions together by themselves
without their demonstration I compared one
with the other, and preceived that some
others in certain parts unless
of those I made a kind of Genus
and as they were connected in of
matter [meaning] sense]. I thought it
would be better they should be so in point
of situation. the reason of
their resemblances not being attended to
by Euclid of their not being classed according
to systematic order I perceived might
be on account of certain order being
necessary for their demonstration
having occasion for others as media
of proof. this reason no longer
subsisted any one depending upon
any other at least so as to divide
the Genus, a genus might depend on
a Genus.
