The Rectangle of 2 numbers is the in Numerical
Terms
borrowed
from the Ideas
of Figure
Produc numerical language the Product
of 2 numbers. so the square of a number
might be stiled the product of that number
for product implies multiplication and as no
other number is expressed it would follow that
the number in question is to serve as multiplier
and multiplicand. so in the same manner
the Cube may be stiled the duplicate product
and so in triplicate Quadruplicate &c.
But if it should be found more usefull to
keepborrow the terms Square of Cube of &c
from Geometrical figures, it may also
for the sake of analogy in the root be
better also to borrow rectangle, and if
so one may also borrow Circumference
and diagonal, as for example the diagonal
of the Square of 20 bears the same
proportion to 20 as the Diagonal of the Square
0f 30 does to 30. These Terms may be convenient: an why not use them?
