of the word and addition was
so is that of Equality.
body could not be put in any disble
circumstances so as to be and to be added
to another for all purposes; so no body
can be put in such circumstances as to be
besaid to be for all purposes equal
to another.
In this case as well as in former conceiving
the addition of things, I hadre considered things
as expressive of substances having different properties
and what appeared was only that when one
consider one property only of such things that
if they were equal in that respect, we
called them equal in general terms
without specifying the property in which
they were equal thatis being supposed
to be known what property we thus attended to
But the word Things in the geomet are used in the
Geometrical sense only to represent at
one time same one property making it
a fictitious entity. Quantity appears
to be the only fictitious entity treated of
by geometry if under the head of quantity
we include every thing which can actually be imagined
divided into aliquots.
