Posology.

— in general.
§. Collateral Uses

?

1.
Ascribed commonly to
Posology are "collateral
uses" — viz.
Uses distinct from
those made of it by
application of it to
physics.

2
that is to say to
ethics including
public deontolgy deontology
as well as
private.

3.
By application of the
mind to this truth collateral branch
the hold habit of close attention
is supposed
to be acquired.

4.
But, suppose the
usefulness on the part
of acquirement thus
acquired, matter better
apply the mind to
the intrinsically
useful acquired acquirement directly,
than through
the intervention of
one not intrinsically
useful.

Time and labor in
waste is the result
of this misapplication.

5.
Real collateral use,
this — habit of entertaining
and giving expression
to the idea of
proportionality or say
gradation — a gradation
in quality and quantity
where if that idea
is not employed, what
is predicated will be
true as to one degree
alone, false as to all
or most others.

6.
This will be found
continually exemplified
in ethical
discourse or deontology
private or
public: refer accordingly
from
hence thither, and
from thence hitherto.

7
Sole means of making
useful application of
Posology to Deontology
especially to public
do. introducing,
in so far as needful
and instructive,
the idea of proportionality.

8
Examples
1. In so far as
2. In proportion as
3. In the direct ratio
4. In the inverse ratio
5. Scale
6. Degrees
7.

9.
Use of this substitution
of correct and true
to incorrect and false
conceptions of the quantities
in question, the
assertion commonly made
on this occasion being
commonly false in
many more instances
than in those in which
it is true; what is
asserted being true in
no more than a few
degrees in a scale of perhaps
indefinite length.
Incorrectness is incompleteness
— in this case this is
the only alteration.

☞ Look out for individual
exemplification in J.B's Codes.

10.
Applicability and usefulness
in what shapes
erroneously ascribed
to it: viz. Ethics including
morals and politics.

11.
Ethics how far Mathematics
is capable of
being made serviceable
to Ethics — Maximization
— Minimization
— phrases expressive
of relation
between quantities —
In so far as as
is to so is
to

12.
Relative and
expressions substituted
to absolute, which in
Ethics are scarce ever
true.

13.
Modes of expression designation
1. Purely verbal
2. Purely figurative or
graphic.
3. Mixt, composed of
both.

Their respective utility.

14.
Motion and time how
far and how capable
of constituting the subject
of posology, alegomorphic
and morphoscopic.

15.
Motion — — the idea of
it is compounded of
that of time & space.

Motion an element
of force or
power in Mechanics.
