II Morphoscopics

Quest. These three words, are they indifferently applied
to any one of the three dimensions?

Ans. No: length is the term commonly employed to designate
the most extensive of the three: breadth or width
the next most extensive; and thickness the least extensive.

Quest. Is the use of these terms confined to the
case where the subject in question is an inflexible
solid such as the slab of a solid table?

Ans. No: they are equally applicable and applied
to flexible substances of all sorts: for example to cloths
of all sorts.

Quest. Is there no word which, as applied to thickness,
has exactly the same meaning with it as in the case
of breadth and width?

Ans. No: but, according to the nature of the object,
instead of thickness we use one or other to words
the one or the other or either of them — viz. heighth
and depth.
