Introduction
§ Means of diffusion

1

☞ 14 May Work up this with "Means of facilitation"

Ch. or §. Means of diffusion, or say Diffusion, how.

1
Means of diffusion are
1 Elimination, Facilitation
2. Facilitation:
1. Elimination applied
to matter found useless
2. Facilitation, applied
to useful remainder.

1. Means of diffusion applicable to posology are called
1 Elimination, or 2. Facilitation: elimination,
applied to the aggregate whole mass of the useless matter interwoven
by custom with the useful matter: facilitation or say
elucidation applied to the useful remainder.

2
Meant by diffusion
is rather preparation
made of the matter in
question for it the being
diffused
: work by
for other and advertisements is
to perform actual diffusion.

2. Note, that these are, strictly speaking, rather
preparations made for actual diffusion, than actual diffusion itself:
as to actual diffusion, the means applicable to literary
works on this subject differ not from those which are applicable
and applied to literary works on other subjects: such as
cheapness of the impression and paper exposure to sale, advertisement through the various
channels.

3
Elimination:
i.e. purposed forbearance
to give insertion in
succeeding works

3. By elimination of the matter in question, understand purposed omission of or say
forbearance to give insertion to the literary matter in question,
which forbearance will have for its ground, the its
supposed useless, absolute or relative

4
Elimination for example
1. From Euclid, those
propositions on the occasion
of which, from
not coming in question, the
quantities are represented
by him:
namely the 25
in Book V.

4 Portions of matter which present themselves as useless, and on
that account fit subjects for elimination are the following
1. From the morphoscopic branch, all that matter in the case of which
in Euclid's Elements is being in its nature and effect an anisomorphic
it has been presented to view in disguise being clothed
in the morphoscopic form — namely in the form of lines: of
lines of different lengths, dis into different numbers of parts
