Our notions of posology
derived from our
senses, principally
sight and feeling
Question 1. From what source are our notions ideas and thence our
knowledge on the subject of posology derived.
Answer — From our senses: principally those of sight and feeling.
But feeling not
commonly used in studying
posology:—
blind have learnt &
taught it.
Question 2. Is it common for us to make use of our senses of feeling
on such occasions in the study of posology
Answer. By no means. No: But to such of us as have the misfortune
to be blind, feeling is the only source: and there are known
instances in which by feeling alone men have acquired such
knowledge in relation to posology, as to have become professed
teachers of it.
Posological ideas not
distinguished from
physical ideas — tho'
distinguished from other
physical ideas
Question 3. These posological ideas have nothing to distinguish
them from physical ideas
Answer. Nothing except the nature at all from physical ideas
But amongst physical ideas, they are distinguished from others
by the nature of the subject: which in the case of posology is so
much more simple than in the case of any other branch of
physical art and science.
