Posology

1

Owing to the causes elsewhere already brought to view, Morphoscopics
had made considerable advance, when Alegomorphics
was as yet in its cradle. To this circumstance perhaps
in a degree more or less considerable is owing the tendency
which has all along been so prevalent amongst Posologists
to regard as more effectually demonstrated whatsoever was
demonstrated by means of Morphoscopics than any they
which without notice taken of morphoscopics was demonstrated
in a direct way by alegomorphics

The abuse consisting in the employing of morphoscopics
to do that with which could be done by alegomorphics
is distinguishable into two parts branches: the taking a roundabout
or say deviant course for doing that with which with much
less labour might be done by taking a direct course: to be
in that
on the occasion needless and useless deviation, proceeding in the path
of fiction: a path in which throughout its whole length is covered
with obscurity.

In every part of the field of art and science the path
of fiction leads to deception: in every part of that field the
of the labour employed in it is evil. In one part, and in one
part alone is that evil a necessary one. The case to which this
exception applies is that in which by words used to express
give expression to the state of and condition of bodies,
language employed itself in giving expression to the state and
condition of minds. As all ideas are but copies of impressions
made by sensible defects — that is to say by bodies exterior to each
man acting upon different parts of his body, hence it is that
in speaking of what in to pass a man says of what passes in his mind whether
it be his own or that of any one else it is not possible for him
to speak of it in any other way than that in which he would
speak
speak of a body: in
a word any otherwise
than by feigning it to
be a body.
