Fiction apart, the clumsy and devious course taken
as above in the case where the misapplication of morphoscopics
to a question which on with which form or say figure has
nothing to do — is not the subject of inquiry is analogous
to the absurdity which would have place if since the Arabic
mode of notation expression for numbers came to be in use, the
Grecian or Roman were, in the performance of the four operations
called rules of arithmetic employed in preference to,
and to the exclusion of — the Arabic. This supposed absurdity
has not been realised. Only by blunt defiance to established
practice could it have been realised. By that
cause it might have been produced: and by that cause when
in the case of the useless substitution of morphoscopical to the proper
alegomorphical language could that maleficent misapplication
have been produced.
